Cricut Contributing Artist series: Clara Battello

Clara Battello, a talented illustrator from Italy, was drawn to the Contributing Artist Program by its potential to amplify her simple yet distinctive style. Creativity, to Clara, is the lens through which she explores new techniques, artists, and ideas, finding inspiration in everything around her, from books and animation to packaging. Check out the following Q&A to learn more about Clara’s creative process, and what inspires her each day.

How did you find Cricut, and why did you decide to join the Contributing Artist Program?

I found Cricut through social media and the ambassador program. I’m an illustrator and I love making cute artwork with animals and other subjects. I love the Cricut potential and I think my style is simple and different compared to many of the other styles in Design Space.

Where did your artistic journey begin?

I attended an advertising graphic school and then a professional illustration course.

What does creativity mean to you?

Creativity is a quality that helps me see things in a different way. It pushes me to improve myself and to discover new techniques and new artists, and to get new input and new ideas.

Who or what inspires you to create, and why?

Mi lascio ispirare da tutto quello che mi circonda, dai libri, dalle serie tv, dai film di animazione, al packaging. Amo guardarmi attorno e scoprire quello che mi piace e può ispirarmi

(I get inspired by everything that surrounds me, from books, TV series, animated films, to packaging. I love looking around and discovering what I like and can inspire me)

What is your favorite type of craft?

I love mugs… they’re one of my favorite personalized items. I took a sewing class, and bags, clutches, and t-shirts are also perfect foundations to customize with Cricut materials.

What word would you use to describe your design style?

Simple, ironic and sweet.

My drawings are simple, but with some fun and colorful details. I hope they can elicit a smile, always.
