Cricut Contributing Artist series: Amal al Said
Amal al Said, a Cricut Contributing Artist based in California, is one such individual who adds a vibrant touch of the Middle East to the design space. Her journey with Cricut began as a graphic designer and ambassador for the Middle East, bringing Arabic designs to life for crafters eager to infuse their projects with cultural richness. Let’s explore her creative world and discover the inspiration behind her art.
How did you find Cricut, and why did you join the Contributing Artist Program?
I am a graphic designer and one of the Cricut ambassadors for the Middle East. When I heard about the Contributing Artist Program through our Facebook page, I knew I had to apply right away. Arabic crafters have long needed more Arabic designs, and I wanted to be one of the first designers to help fill that gap. It was an opportunity to showcase the beauty and complexity of Arabic art through the versatile platform of Cricut.
Where did your artistic journey begin?
My artistic journey began at a young age. I’ve always been a crafter, seeing potential in every little item that came my way. I remember one peculiar project from my childhood — I made a chandelier for my room out of new baby shoes! It might have been odd, but it was the start of a lifelong passion for turning ordinary objects into art. Now, I’m channeling that passion into creating stunning pieces with my beloved Cricut, particularly with cardstock as my canvas.
What does creativity mean to you?
Creativity, to me, is a multifaceted gem. It’s the ability to turn my thoughts into tangible reality, whether it’s through art or problem-solving. I see creativity to serve differently, to bring joy and beauty into the world in unexpected ways.
Who or what inspires you to create, and why?
I find inspiration everywhere I look. There’s beauty in the simplest of things, and I want to share that perspective with others through my work. Whether it’s the intricate patterns of Arabic calligraphy or the subtle elegance of nature, I aim to translate these inspirations into designs that resonate with people.
What is your favorite type of craft, or what project have you created that you are most proud of?
Paper crafts hold a special place in my heart. The possibilities are endless, and I love the versatility of cardstock as a medium. One project that stands out is a calendar design I created in Design Space. It was inspired by a personal calendar, and when I shared it in the official Cricut Facebook group, the response was magical. Seeing others appreciate and use my designs is truly fulfilling.
Describe your artistic style in one word and explain.
Simple but different; I strive for elegance in simplicity. My designs are clean and easy to use, yet they offer a unique twist that sets them apart.
What is your favorite family recipe?
One of my favorite family recipes is stuffed chicken. It’s a dish that brings everyone together, much like art does.
If you had to choose a color to describe yourself, what would it be?
White. It represents cleanliness, clarity, and calmness — qualities I aim to embody in my life and work.
Favorite Cricut product and why?
The Cricut machine itself! I’m still amazed at how accurate and clean the cuts are. It’s a game-changer for any crafter.
