No, the machine does not require a subscription. Design Space is free for everyone and offers basic fonts and images you can use to create and customize projects. If you want to be able to do everything our design software can offer, a paid Cricut Access subscription can unlock design features, access to more fonts and images, as well 1,000+ project templates and priority member care.
Depending on what projects you want to make, you’ll need select materials and tools to get started. Cricut Explore 5 comes standard with enough material to make up to 30 projects¹, plus a machine mat, pen, and Mini Weeder. If you want to skip the extra trips to the store and really hit the ground cutting, the Cricut Explore 5 + Everything Bundle includes enough material to make up to 250 projects¹. In this bundle you’ll get a selection of Cricut Smart Materials™, Cardstock, Insert Cards, Transfer Tape, and more materials. You’ll also get a machine mat and an assortment of crafting tools.
While you do not have to use Cricut Smart Materials with your Cricut Explore 4 machine, they're a great option to save time and simplify your making experience. Other materials require a machine mat. No matter which Cricut materials you chose, this fast cutting machine offers precise cuts and incredible results.
Cricut Explore 5 can cut bonded fabric with the Bonded-Fabric Blade (sold separately).
