Oriana’s Story: Using Cricut with a Small Bakery Business

8 February 2022

Looking to begin a small business but unsure of how to make beautiful and personalised packaging? Cricut machines can be the perfect companion for small businesses, not only to make items to sell, but for your packaging and branding needs too.

We caught up with Oriana of Coshi Bakery who shares her story on how her small business started. She also discusses how she uses her Cricut machine to enhance her bakes and product packaging too.

Oriana shares with us below…

Tell us about your business and how it started!

My business is a homemade bakery named The Coshi Bakery, specialising in products with lots of love and chocolate. After many years baking for family and friends, and loving to hear people’s reactions I decided to start my own business at home. As I was coming out of my maternity leave I started thinking about a work option that would allow me to combine being a mother, spending time with my family, and running a house. So I decided it was time to open my own bakery from home.

What kinds of products do you sell and where do you sell?

The base menu offers chocolate chunk cookies with walnuts, chocolate pie, brownie bites, and our signature ‘Tiger Eye Bites’, which is a mini muffin made of almond flour and filled with chocolate hazelnut cream. Additionally, I also do bespoke cakes and cupcakes in any size, shape, and motive, yes, any! Even a drunk Barbie for a 21st Birthday.

My sales are mainly made through Facebook, Instagram and my website Coshi Bakery. I’ve also participated in a few makers markets around Hampshire area through the years. I ship to all GB, but if you are in the Southampton area, you can also find my cookies on Deliveroo.

How did Cricut factor in helping your business?

The story of Cricut and The Coshi Bakery comes after a Mother’s Day personalised Afternoon Tea package I designed.

I realised that doing bespoke projects was great to do, and being a detail-oriented person, I decided to purchase the machine. Since then, I’ve been using my Cricut Maker to make all the extra bits/props for my cakes. I’ve made cupcake toppers or name tags for the cake base, personalised glass jars for treats, gift tags and even flowers to decorate the cakes.

I’ve also made different decorations like birthday banners and props for birthday parties. The bespoke options are endless when you have aCricut machine

Which Cricut products would you recommend for someone who is just starting out in their business?

Even though the Cricut Maker™ is one of the most expensive Cricut machines, I’d totally recommend any business to go for it as it is a nice investment for them.

There are many amazing things Cricut has to offer to help you out with your business. From making your own business cards, gift tags, gift card, boxes, stickers, and stationery to add to your packaging, to decorations, cake toppers, cupcake wrappers, any kind of labels to organise your office and supplies.

What are your top tips for someone who is about to begin their small business journey?

I highly recommend finding something that you feel passionate about, that makes you feel happy and somehow relaxed when you are doing it. Absolutely trust yourself and your products. It’s not easy to start from scratch but it’s so amazing to see your business grows over time.
