DIY Halloween Tablescape with Oriana
Much has been said about the joy of spending time together around the table and those moments that create memories with family and friends. Having guests over for a meal is one of the most valuable experiences we can share with our loved ones.
Oriana, a Cricut Crew member and long-time Cricut lover, created a frightfully gorgeous Halloween tablescape with her mum, Leticia and we couldn’t resist sharing it with you! She also has some handy hints and tips for creating your own tablescape whatever the occasion.
Over to Oriana…
Cleaning the house, preparing cosy spaces, cooking, setting the table and of course making some special and personalised details with our Cricut machines are some of the things we do when inviting people to our place on any occasion.
We created a tablescape inspired by Halloween – much of it created and personalised with the Cricut Joy™. It is perfect for adding magic to any tablescape with simple and delicate details.
Planning a dinner party
Whether it is breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, or snacks, as hosts, the table is always the object with which we flatter our guests with the intention of giving them an unforgettable experience. People love to feel special and we can make it possible by adding a few Cricut touches to our tables.
When planning an event at home, we ask ourselves a series of questions:
- Who are we going to invite?
- How many people are coming?
- What are we going to serve?
- What music to play?
- What theme is the dinner party?
- How we will decorate the table?
Based on the menu, we choose a colour palette and the tableware to serve each of the dishes on the menu. A well-dressed table makes an impact on the diners and motivates them to replicate the experience in their own homes.
It also makes food look more appetizing, and even makes it taste more delicious!
Things you should consider when creating a tablescape
A full-cover tablecloth is key on a formal table. For a more casual table setting, the only limit is your imagination.
Have fun choosing table runners, placemats, dinner plates and adding aesthetics to the table. In our spooky Halloween tablescape, we opted for black placemats that suit the Halloween theme and added some white cardstock spiderwebs between the plates for elegant detailing.
We chose black dinner plates and white napkins for our dinner to go in perfect harmony with the rest of the decoration. The colour palate is an important factor to consider when tablescaping.
The light orange pumpkin salad plates add a touch of bright colour and add to the Halloween aesthetic.
Napkins made of cloth are great for tablescaping. You could even personalise them in line with the theme or your guest’s name!
We decorated the napkin rings with Cricut cardstock black bats – perfect for our Halloween look.
If the top plate is flat, the napkin looks great on top of it.
Think about how you can add little details that make a big impact.
For our Halloween tablescape, we added some spiders made out of Cricut black vinyl and applied them to the glassware. This detail added a spooky, yet delicate look to the glassware. For any glassware, permanent vinyl should always be used as this is UV and water- resistant for up to three years. If it is only for use for that evening, removable will be a great choice as you can easily remove it after.

The centerpiece is essential. We chose an arrangement of not-so-fragrant flowers with subtle green foliage inside the two skull vases.
Make sure they are not too high as this may block conversation between the diners sitting opposite. If you are bringing serving platters to the table, you may choose to remove the large centerpiece just before placing the food or you could set up a side table for serving.

Place cards are desirable since they help with the seating arrangement and add to the overall theme. Visitors can take them when they leave as a souvenir and use them as book markers. For this occasion, I’ve designed a spiderweb place card on Design Space with a spooky font (Bfc Hello October). They are made of white cardstock and details were drawn on by my Cricut machine and a black Cricut Joy Fine Point pen.

Nothing makes a better first impression than the table. If your event is at night, try to set the table in the morning or even the night before so you can focus on the food and entertaining your guests.
Setting the table may not seem that simple, but it is very important and is lots of fun. Achieving a beautiful table requires planning, time, elegance, and adding the personal touches that guests will remember.
