9 Colourful DIY home decor ideas to make with your Cricut Machine

10 February 2023

The minimalist and muted-toned aesthetic isn’t for everyone. For some, they love to be surrounded by bold patterns and palettes; utilising rich textures and a layering of colour to create an environment perfect for them. Luckily our Cricut machines can help us create the exact vibe we want to have in our homes.

We collaborated with AJ and Tara who used their eclectic and colourful styles to intensify previously muted rooms. They created beautiful and bold Cricut projects that we have collated to provide you with DIY inspiration for your home decor.

Filling his office space with colour by infusing an industrial and street-style aesthetic, AJ used spray paint and bright vinyl to add life and vitality. Whereas Tara embarked on a journey to create an alternative jungle-themed bedroom, using bright pinks and oranges to create animal-inspired decals and bedding.

Here are nine Cricut projects to give your space the colourful uplift you desire.

Motivational Messaging

Whether you’re looking in the mirror first thing in the morning or just sitting down to work at your desk, a motivational message can help spur you on for the day. And using bright, colourful vinyl makes it all the more impactful!

Tara created an inspiring “Be Bold” decal with our removable Smart Vinyl™, which she put directly onto a mirror. If you are motivated to make your own motivational decal, you can find Be Bold project to save, customise, or make now on Design Space here.

Also using removable Smart Vinyl™, AJ customised his desk mat with an influential slogan exclaiming, “You Better Work”. You can save, customise, or make this project now on Design Space here.

Wall art wonders

Have you ever encountered a piece of artwork or a design that you felt needed something extra to make it perfect? Using Cricut, Tara and AJ show us how you can add unique and personal touches to enhance different types of wall art.

Tara took us to a different type of concrete jungle, adding custom tiger decals with removable vinyl to a piece of artwork of a city skyline. Whereas AJ elevated his own spray-painted canvas by adding vinyl decals, creating depth and a vivid contrast against his neon colours.

Fabulous fabrics

A key feature of maximalism is experimenting with contrasting fabrics and patterns; adding fun and colourful accents to what may appear as a simple design. This is a fun and easy way to elevate your soft furnishings. Using Cricut, AJ and Tara demonstrate how they amplified bedding and pillows with iron-on and Infusible Ink™.

AJ transported us out of this world with his upcycled alien iron-on cushion, using bright blue smart iron-on on a black and white patterned background. You can create your own with his project in Design Space here.

For her soft furnishing upcycle, Tara used Infusible Ink to add a selection of tigers and flowers to a blush pink bedding set. Create your own with Tara’s project in Design Space here.

Punky and pink

If you find that a lot of the furniture and décor you like doesn’t have that edge or pizazz that you’re looking for, look no further. AJ used his Cricut machine to elevate his belongings to feel more him.

Using the bright party pink removable vinyl, AJ added edgy and alternative vinyl stickers to plant pots and metal lockers. Allowing him to add pops of colour into his décor without compromising on his style.
