Meet the Contributing Artist: Stephanie Jones

10 January 2025

Stephanie Jones, an imaginative and fun-loving artist from Derbyshire, UK, is turning the ordinary into the extraordinary with her whimsical designs in Cricut’s Contributing Artist Program. With a love for all things magical, Stephanie’s creations bring a sense of wonder and playfulness to projects. From gold dragons to silly quotes, her designs are as enchanting as her artistic journey.

How did you discover Cricut and join the Contributing Artist Program?

My journey with Cricut began during my days as an illustrator for greeting card and homeware publishers. One day, I stumbled upon cut files while shopping for digital brushes and fonts. Intrigued by this new medium, I decided to teach myself how to create SVGs compatible with Cricut. The Contributing Artist Program is the perfect opportunity to share my designs and connect with a creative community.

Where did your artistic journey begin?

Art has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My Gran played a huge role in nurturing my creativity, gifting me my first set of artist pencils and watercolors. She taught me everything she knew, which is probably why, as a 4-year-old, I once refused to paint a self-portrait at school unless they provided brushes fine enough to add proper details. No chunky brushes for me!

What does creativity mean to you?

Creativity is about taking ideas, feelings, and experiences and shaping them into something you can share with the world. It’s a way to express yourself and bring others joy.

Who or what inspires you to create?

Inspiration is everywhere — books I read, conversations I have, places I visit, and life itself. I’m always soaking in the magic of everyday moments and translating them into my art.

Describe your artistic style in one word.

Whimsical! I’m drawn to the magical and the playful, and I try to infuse these elements into my work. I love creating designs with a sense of wonder, whether it’s through silly quotes or enchanting motifs.

What’s your favorite Cricut craft or project?

My favorite project must be a faux leather bookmark I made with gold dragons. It’s a personal favorite that I use daily. I almost lost it to my husband and daughter, so I’ll definitely be making more! After all, can anyone ever have too many bookmarks?

What’s your proudest accomplishment?

As an artist, there’s nothing more exciting than seeing my work in the “real world.” I’ve had my designs published on greeting cards and home accessories sold in major stores worldwide. For someone who has often second-guessed her own work, this is an accomplishment I’m deeply proud of.

Do you collect anything?

Yes, several things! I have more books than I can fit in my house — let’s just say I have “no shelf control.” I also collect whimsical and magical items, often picking up unique, one-of-a-kind crafts wherever I go. And anything with a woodland theme, like owls, hares, and foxes, always finds a way into my home.

Are you a clean or messy person?

I’d call myself chaotically organized. My workspace might not be tidy, but I always know where everything is. After all, artwork over housework, right?

Stephanie’s designs reflect her love for creativity, her connection to life’s little wonders, and her desire to bring joy to others. Check out her whimsical, magical creations in Cricut Design Space — and maybe even craft yourself a gold dragon bookmark!
