Meet the Contributing Artist: Myra Luy-Aban

Myra Luy-Aban, a passionate artist and crafter from the Philippines, discovered her love for art as a child with just paper, pencil, and scissors. Embracing new technologies like the Cricut Maker 3, Myra’s artistic journey has been one of constant growth and evolution. Her excitement for the Cricut Contributing Artist Program stems from her lifelong dream of sharing her passion with others, a goal she now fulfills by crafting designs that range from playful and fun to bold and innovative. 

How did you find Cricut, and why did you join the Contributing Artist Program? 

As an artist and crafter, sharing my passion for arts and crafts has always been a dream of mine. When Cricut introduced the Contributing Artist Program, I saw it as the perfect opportunity to bring that dream to life. Excited by the possibilities, I applied without hesitation—and was thrilled to be accepted! 

Where did your artistic journey begin? 

From a young age, I learned the importance of staying creative with the tools available to me. With just paper, pencil, and scissors, I discovered a deep passion for art and self-expression. Over the years, this passion grew as I embraced new technologies like my computer and Cricut machine, allowing my creativity to evolve and flourish. 

What does creativity mean to you? 

Creativity means expressing yourself in a way that is uniquely your own. It’s about using your imagination to bring new and innovative ideas to life—concepts that are original and uniquely you. There are no strict rules, no right or wrong in creativity; it’s simply about embracing your individuality. 

Who or what inspires you to create? 

I draw inspiration from the world around me—whether it’s the people I meet, my loved ones, the creativity of other artists and crafters, or even my beloved cats. Each of these influences sparks new ideas and fuels my imagination, helping me to continuously generate fresh concepts. 

What Is your favorite type of craft, and what project are you most proud of? 

I love creating all kinds of crafts, from paper crafting to sewing and crocheting. There’s so much joy in the process of bringing my ideas to life! Choosing a favorite project is nearly impossible because each one holds a special place in my heart. It might be the packaging set I designed for a competition, the butterfly invitation I crafted for my niece’s wedding, or the 3-foot plush toy I sewed for a craft show. Every project has its own story, and the list goes on and on. 

Describe your artistic style in one word: 

I don’t define my art by a specific style; instead, I let my creativity guide me wherever it wants to go. My images range from fun and playful to serious, allowing me to explore a wide spectrum of ideas. I enjoy experimenting with color—sometimes I’m drawn to bold, vibrant hues, while other times I prefer soft, subtle pastels. That said, I think my style leans more toward fun and playful since so many of my creations naturally fall into that category. 

Do you collect anything? 

Absolutely! I love collecting Cricut Cuties, and I’m thrilled to say I have 13 of them in my collection. It’s not easy to get them in my country since they’re not sold here, but thanks to Cricut Philippines, I’ve been fortunate enough to win some as contest prizes, which makes owning one all the more special and exciting! 

What is your proudest accomplishment? 

One of my proudest accomplishments has been becoming part of the Cricut family. From being accepted into the Cricut Contributing Artist Program to serving as a Cricut Philippines Ambassador, each step in this journey has been a source of immense pride and fulfillment. It’s been an incredibly inspiring experience, and I’m so grateful for these opportunities.

Here’s something fun—my husband and my son are also Cricut Contributing Artists! Isn’t that amazing? It’s such a joy to share this creative journey as a family. 

What is your favorite Cricut product, and why? 

Without a doubt, the Cricut Maker 3 is my favorite. Its ability to cut through a wide variety of materials makes it such a versatile tool. It’s perfect for anyone passionate about crafting and looking to elevate their creative projects to the next level!
