Meet the Contributing Artist: Barbara Kollmannsberger

27 December 2024

Barbara Kollmannsberger, a Munich-based artist, joined the Contributing Artist Program after a journey of discovery, passion, and a love for design. With a media and graphic design background, Barbara’s creations bring smiles to her family, friends, and the Cricut community. Her mission? To craft simple, colorful, and heartwarming designs that inspire joy. Here’s a glimpse into her creative world!

How did you find Cricut, and why did you Join the Contributing Artist Program?

My Cricut journey began in 2022 during a visit to a friend who owned a Cricut machine. Intrigued by what it could do, I bought my Maker 3 the following week and dived headfirst into crafting and designing.

A year later, I became a Cricut ambassador for Germany. Through this, I discovered the Contributing Artist Program and saw it as the perfect platform to share my SVG designs with a broader audience. I realized my creations could bring joy to others, and that’s how my CAP adventure began.

Where did your artistic journey begin?

Creativity has been part of my life since childhood. As a kid, I loved experimenting with wild ideas and designing things, like drawing houses on graph paper and dreaming of becoming an architect.

Eventually, my passion for design led me to study Media Design in Germany and earn my Bachelor in Graphic Design in Cape Town. Design has always been central to my life, and Cricut has allowed me to share that passion with others.

Who or what inspires you to create?

My inspiration comes from the people and moments around me — my family, friends, and especially my kids. Their wishes and the experiences we share guide my designs.

For example, creating a princess decal to brighten my daughter’s day is one of the ways I use my creativity to bring joy. It’s the little things in life that inspire me most.

What does creativity mean to you?

For me, creativity is about more than just making art. It’s how you see the world and find ways to make it better. Creativity is designing something that comes from your heart and making it real.

I believe everyone is creative; they just need the right tools to bring their ideas to life. That’s why Cricut is so special — it empowers people to become the creators they’ve always wanted to be.

What is your favorite type of craft, and what project are you most proud of?

I love creating images for vinyl, iron-on, and paper crafts, exploring the endless possibilities that paper offers.

The project I’m most proud of is a communion candle I designed for my godchild. She told me exactly what she wanted, and together we brought her vision to life using Cricut to cut the wax. Seeing her happiness and pride in the finished candle was a truly special moment.

Describe your artistic style in one word.

Simple – but in the best way! Most of my work is cute, colorful, and approachable. Simplicity allows my designs to bring happiness and clarity in a sometimes-overwhelming world.

How would your friends describe you?

My friends often say I’m full of ideas, a bit crazy, always happy, and endlessly optimistic. They know I love to help others and that I shape my life with purpose and positivity.

Are you a clean or messy person?

I thrive on keeping things neat and tidy, especially since I craft in my living room. But when creativity strikes, my space can get chaotic — and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

If you had to choose a color to describe yourself, what would it be?

Pink, or a shade of pink, is my color. It’s powerful, warm, loving, and makes me feel happy — much like how I strive to live my life.

Barbara’s designs, crafted with love and inspiration from her daily life, bring joy to every Cricut project. Whether it’s colorful decals, heartfelt candles, or creative images, her work continues to inspire makers worldwide. Check out her beautiful creations in Design Space!
