Meet the Contributing Artist: Almesdesign

18 October 2024

Almesdesign, an Italian fashion designer turned Cricut Contributing Artist, combined her passion for design, fashion, and crafting into her creative journey. As a Cricut ambassador, Almesdesign’s playful and monochromatic style, infused with humorous characters, has captured the hearts of many in the Cricut community. Let’s explore her story and what inspires her unique approach to art.

How did you find Cricut, and why did you join the Contributing Artist Program?

As an Italian Cricut ambassador, I’ve been a part of the Cricut community for some time, so I was already deeply immersed in Cricut’s creative world. When I saw the opportunity to become one of the artists contributing to the platform, I didn’t hesitate. It was a natural next step for me to help enrich Cricut’s vast collection with my designs.

Where did your artistic journey begin?

Art has been an essential part of my life since childhood. I’ve always been drawn to drawing, colors, and working with materials—they’ve become the tools of my trade. My professional background is in fashion design, where I developed graphics and packaging for many years. That experience gave me a solid foundation in design, but it’s crafting where I truly found my creative freedom.

What does creativity mean to you?

Creativity is a language that goes beyond words. It’s a form of expression that can reach anyone through lines, colors, and shapes. It’s about turning an abstract thought into something tangible and concrete. It’s a way of communicating that’s deeply personal yet universally understood.

Who or what inspires you to create, and why?

I draw inspiration from the world around me. The colors, textures, and shapes I see daily feed into my designs, but what truly drives me is the desire to make something personal and unique. There’s something magical about watching someone’s reaction when they see a handmade object—they see the care and thought that went into it, and that’s what keeps me creating. I aim to bring joy and amazement to those who view or receive my work.

What is your favorite type of craft, or what project have you created that you are most proud of?

I love working with different materials, whether paper, fabric, or wood. Experimenting with new mediums keeps my projects fresh and exciting. One thing consistent across all my work, though, is the inclusion of funny characters—they’ve become my signature style! The materials I use become a canvas for these playful, often black-and-white creations designed to make people smile. My favorite projects are always those that manage to combine simplicity with a touch of humor.

Describe your artistic style.

I would describe my style with three words:

Linear: My designs often have simple, clean lines. I believe that simplicity speaks volumes and reflects my personal style.

Monochromatic: Black and white are the cornerstones of my creative expression. The contrast between the two allows me to play with form and detail in a way that makes my work instantly recognizable.

Funny: Humor is essential to my art. The characters I design are meant to be whimsical and lighthearted, bringing a smile to whoever sees them. They’re the heart and soul of what I create.

Favorite Cricut product and why?

My favorite product is the iron-on material. It’s incredibly versatile and works on so many different surfaces. Whether decorating fabric, personalizing gifts, or experimenting with other materials, iron-on always delivers excellent results and gives me the flexibility to create a wide range of projects.

What is your favorite family tradition?

Decorating the Christmas tree is a cherished tradition in my family. We always gather together to hang the decorations, and on the morning of December 25th, we open all the gifts under the tree as a family. I look forward to a moment of shared joy and togetherness every year.

Do you collect anything?

I collect buttons! I have large transparent jars with colorful buttons that I’ve bought or saved from clothes I no longer use. It’s an obsession, but I love the variety and the little memories each button holds.
