Tips & Tricks
It is recommended washing your children’s tableware set by hand. Allow 24 hours after application before allowing contact with water to ensure the vinyl glue has fully adhered.
Don’t place your vinyl shapes inside a bowl, on a plate main surface, on the spoon bowl, or too near or on the very edge of your cup rim to minimize contact with food and your mouth while eating and drinking.
This project is aimed at older children and not babies or young children.
If you are using Smart Vinyl, you will not require the use of a mat.
Step 1

Open Design Space and choose your font before typing the names you require. Upload the exclusive Butterfly SVG and Small Flower SVG files. The butterfly and flower shapes have been duplicated several times (around 15) on the Canvas to allow plenty of stickers to add to all of the blank items. Trim your vinyl if required and add to your mat or load your Smart Materials. Follow the on-screen instructions for cutting.
Step 2

Use your brayer to smooth out your vinyl. You can see small particles in the glossy vinyl that will be stuck to the mat underneath. These won’t impact your cut if your vinyl is firmly in position. But do try to get out any larger air bubbles with your brayer.
Step 3

Once cut, weed away your designs using your weeder. Repeat the cuts with any other colours.
Step 4

Trim the cut-out names. You will use Transfer Tape to transfer these. Cut a small piece of tape that is big enough to cover the name.
Step 5

Use your scraper to push the name on to the transfer tape.
Step 6

Pull the name away from the carrier sheet. Don’t forget you can reuse this piece of tape for the next name. Place the name on to the cup. Try to use the top of the cup as a guide to line things up. These specific cups also have small linear ridges, which is helpful. Use your thumbs to gently push your design on to the cup, making sure to push out any air bubbles.
Step 7

Pull the tape away from your name. Repeat with the other cups and any other names.
Step 8

Peel the rest of the shapes from the carrier sheet like ‘stickers’. Use your tweezers if this helps. I find bending the carrier sheet can also help you remove the shapes.
Step 9

Place the shapes wherever you like around the name. You could keep them all the same colour and design or mix and match for a multi-coloured effect.
Step 10

Keep adding the shapes until you are happy with your finished cup. Repeat with your other cups.
Step 11

Repeat the sticker shapes on the other items. Just add the butterfly and flower shapes around the edge of the plates, on the bowl sides and on the spoon handle. You could also add the child’s name on every item too if you like.
Step 12

And you are done! One bright tableware set.
Going beyond the Make
Making children’s personalized items is super easy with Cricut vinyl and iron-on. You could cut out and make children’s names or initials for clothing, bags – even cushions and bedding. Paul likes to cut out her children’s initials in iron-on for labelling inside their school uniform and in vinyl for their water bottles and lunchboxes.
