It’s that time of year, when the nights get darker, the weather gets colder and we start to bring out the winter clothing, the seasonal home decorations and of course, thinking about the gifts to buy friends and family for Christmas.
We have gathered the top trends for festive feels and handmade gifting ready for the busiest season of the year. Whether you are a small business considering products to sell, or makers who will be creating home decor and handmade gifts, these top trends will certainly inspire you to create beautiful gifts and decorations.
Mollie Makes Poll
Mollie Makes ran a poll on their Instagram about the expectations during the festive season. 97% said they would buy from independent shops this year, which is great news for small businesses and additionally, it’s positive to see that 93% will be sharing something handmade as a gift this Christmas.
More consumers want the personal touch that handmade gifting brings meaning more and more are opting to make instead of buying or choosing small businesses for a more unique offering.
The gifting trends of 2021
Personalisation
It’s no surprise that we mention personalisation. Unique decor and clothing has been a trend that has been permanently present throughout the year and the winter season will be no exception.
Searches such as ‘Christmas gift ideas for her’ or ‘Christmas gift ideas for nan’ are popular search terms according to Google Trends.
Creating thoughtful, personalised gifts with names, or a favourite quote from a song or book not only will delight the recipients but make great gifts to sell too.
Candles
According to Etsy, last year Candles were one of its bestsellers during the winter season. On a cold winter evening, a warm glowing candle is what is needed and makes a perfect gift for most.
You could create personalised decals for your candles using permanent vinyl to make them unique to the recipient.
Additionally, Tara from OurLayeredHome on Instagram had a great idea of personalising a mug with the Cricut Mug Press for her handmade candles.
Hampers
According to Google Trends, the topic of Hampers for gifting has been on the rise.
Hampers are a great way to create a unique bundle of gifts perfect for the individual. A tea or coffee lover might appreciate a personalised mug and coaster set with an assortment of tea bags or coffee sachets.
With a Cricut machine, Infusible Ink™, the Cricut Mug Press™ and the Cricut EasyPress™, you could create hampers to sell or gift for your friends and family.
For gin lovers, a glass personalised with permanent vinyl might be a great addition to a hamper.
Name Signs
A high in demand gift Etsy indicated from last year’s purchases was personalised name signs. Whether it’s for outside the home as a house sign or inside as a family sign, a Cricut machine can help personalise these items with vinyl, iron-on(HTV) and Infusible Ink.
Christmas Home Decor Trends
Reusable Table Decor
Recycling, upcycling and reusable products have been hot topics this year as many adapted to sustainable living and are more mindful of the materials they are using.
House Beautiful reported that particularly at the dinner table, there would be a growing demand for reusable Christmas favourites such as crackers and party hats.
With the Cricut Maker and Explore machines, you could cut old fabrics to make reusable and washable items and even add some iron-on for personalisation too.
We have a number of cracker images and table decor projects available in Cricut Design Space ready to make now.
