Karen H. Baxter

Karen Baxter -Atlanta

Atlanta, GA
Occupation: Maker, Empowerment Coach + Mindset Mentor

Why do you create? What inspires you?
I create because I am compelled to. Creating is not just something I do, it is a part of who I am. It is my therapy. It is my comfort zone. I am inspired by helping others tap into their greatness. I want to help others tap into their creative energy so that they can use it to expand their businesses and lives.

Karen Baxter speaking at Black Girls Craft event

How does making and being creative empower you?
It is an outward expression of who I am. Creativity allows me to connect with others without words. The confidence I gain when I create empowers me to continue on my mission to help others empower themselves using their creative gifts.

Karen Baxter with Cricut CEO Ashish Arora

Is there a particular woman in your life that has made an impact on your life? My mother is everything to me.  She has shown me what it means to be strong and fierce yet soft and feminine.  Although she was a stay-at-home mom and wife, she always maintained her identity.  She was and still is her own woman.  That helped me to understand that I didn’t have to lose myself to take care of others.  One of my favorite things she says is, “You gotta get some spit in your eye and starch in your backbone!”.  That means you better know who you are and what you stand for so that you won’t fall for anything. Those words have helped me push through hard times and get to where I needed to be.

Karen Baxter at Black Girls Craft event with her family and Cricut CEO Ashish Arora

What are your favorite things to make with Cricut? Any and everything!  I love making planner items like stickers and die cuts.  I do mugs and shirts as well. I sometimes use it to cut fabric to put on my shirts and other items.  I love paper too, so I will use the Maker to cut detailed projects.

What are must-have items in your Cricut toolbox? Definitely the Cricut Maker, weeding tool, and my purple mat.

Nat Bartholomaeus

Nat Bartholomaeus

Lismore, Australia
Occupation: Debt collector by day, Crafter by night

Why do you create? What inspires you?
Creating is my downtime, when I can forget about everything and everyone else and just be a little kid again. I find inspiration in everyday life. Whether it be walking through the shops, scrolling through social media or even playing with my niece and nephew, I always pick up little hints of inspiration to use in some way.

Nat Bartholomaeus - Cricut crafts and gift ideas.

How does making and being creative empower you?
Making and being creative empowers me to put smiles on the faces around me. It helps me raise others up and give confidence to other crafters. Crafting has given me the confidence to take on different projects in life that I never thought was possible. But most importantly, it has given me a wonderful community of like-minded people that no matter the distance, we can rely on each other for help and advice. It has given me friendships that will last a lifetime!

Is there a particular woman in your life that has made an impact on your life?
My mother has had a huge impact on me. She was a single mother with 4 kids and did it tough every day. She has shown me that you don’t need to have all the riches in the world to be able to live a happy creative life. Growing up she taught me to sew as she couldn’t always afford the new in style clothes. She also encouraged me to use leftover toilet rolls and cereal boxes to get crafty.

What are your favorite things to make with Cricut?
I love crafting with iron-on and Infusible Ink the most. However, I have come to love my papercrafts over the past few years. My all-time favourite piece to make is the Felt Cookie Playset.

What are must-have items in your Cricut toolbox?
I love my Brayer and couldn’t craft without it, but the Cricut Infusible Ink Pens have become my go-to item. I just wish that there were even more colours available!

Johanna Cryer

Johanna Cryer

Stockholm, Sweden
Occupation: Art Director, Photographer, Influencer

Why do you create? What inspires you?
My mind is constantly buzzing with ideas for new projects, I constantly write down scribbles or send messages to myself when I spark up an idea. Few of these ideas get created, but when I feel passionate about an idea, I dedicate. When I have decided an idea is worth developing I seek inspiration, this can be through inspiring people, experiences, long walks outdoors with my thoughts, or Pinterest. Then it’s the fun part – learn by doing. No one is a professional at any task the first time; it takes practice and many trial and errors. It’s the failures that have the best outcome as these are where creativity sparks and the final outcome becomes something to be proud about. For me creativity exists in all aspects of life, it’s cooking dinner, creating DIY craft projects, or problem solving. Get creative.

Is there a particular womxn in your life that has made an impact on your life?
My mother is the most creative person I know and is someone I truly look up to. She always has a project on the go, and any/every time I have an idea she is the first person I call to discuss. She has taught me everything from crocheting, drawing, sewing and cooking – I inspire to have the same talents.

What are your favorite things to make with Cricut?
I’m currently obsessed with Cricut Joy, it’s like having a personal sidekick that just makes your crafting visions come to life – I love the card mat and being able to create beautiful greeting cards within minutes. I use the Cricut Maker to create my own cards and envelopes, then cut out the card details on Cricut Joy.

Over Christmas, Cricut Maker was amazing for creating beautiful paper ornaments. I could easily create my own designs within Design Space and create decorations for years to come.

What are must-have items in your Cricut toolbox?
Cricut Joy, Cricut Maker, card mat, scraper & spatula, unlimited paper supply in all shapes and colours!

Laure Coulombel

Laure Coulombel - I LOVE DIY

Meudon, France
Occupation: Content creator, Co-founder of Bureau D’influence et du DIY Festival

Why do you create? What inspires you?
I have always created as far as I can remember. Bracelets in seed beads, scents in lavender… Creativity allows you to escape, to meditate, but, above all, to provide a feeling of accomplishment and personal satisfaction. And it feels good, especially at this time.

Laure Coulombel - I LOVE DIY

My sources of inspiration are everywhere: magazines, fashion shows, people walking in the street, nature, Paris! I don’t limit myself to one discipline. Painting can also inspire me, like the mixture of colors in watercolors and also paper collages that I particularly like. I do watercolors every month and it guides me to a direction for my creations.

Laure Coulombel - I LOVE DIY

Is there a particular womxn in your life that has made an impact on your life?
Of course, my mom! She, herself, is creative in every sense of the word. She is an excellent seamstress. When I was little, I drew a model, and he was sewn up by her. We have shared a lot of creative moments together. We still share that today. I really appreciate passing this on to my 6-year-old daughter! A great way to pass the passion on from one generation to the next.

Laure Coulombel - I LOVE DIY

What are your favorite things to make with Cricut?
I especially enjoy doing projects that I will use in everyday life. With paper: a beautiful table decoration for all occasions, pretty kraft labels to embellish my jars, greeting cards with foil.

I have a special affection for leather. You can easily create leather goods or key rings. It makes for some great gifts.

And, of course, Infusible Ink, which gives an incomparable professional rendering.

The list could be long, so Cricut increases my creativity tenfold.

What are must-have items in your Cricut toolbox?
The deep blade for cutting leather. It offers foolproof precision. I also use the foil tool because I am an absolute fan of gold. And, of course, the tool organizer for optimal storage of all my blades.

Maren Bussmann

Maren Bussmann

Wertheim, Germany
Occupation: Mother and housewife; Cricut ambassador and trainer

Why do you create? What inspires you?
Mainly I create to make other people happy. It makes me feel so good to give others something very personal, individual and professional that you cannot buy. I can show people in a very special way how much I appreciate and like them. And I can live and exceed my creativity in my projects without limits. And the best thing is that even after 5 years crafting with Cricut I’m still learning and my creations are getting better and better.

Maren Bussmann

How does making and being creative empower you?
It is an incredible enrichment to see what you can create with a few simple materials and a few creative ideas. The joy from the beginning of the idea to the finished result is overwhelming every time. It does not only empower but also give me self-confidence and happiness.

Maren Bussmann - Movie Gift Package

Is there a particular women in your life that has made an impact on your life?
My mother has made an impact in my life. She always thinks of everyone and gives such loving and personal gifts to others. She always puts thought into giving everyone something personal. Whether it’s for special days like birthdays or weddings or to give someone courage or comfort. She has the biggest heart I know. And it’s not the gifts it’s the loving thought and effort that goes into them.

Maren Bussmann - Party Decor

What are your favorite things to make with Cricut?
I actually love working with cardstock and chipboard. But now we have our 3rd child and I have less time for it. Therefore, I currently love working with vinyl and HTV. It is so great to work with there materials! I can create very quickly special unique pieces. No vase, glass jar, bag or t-shirt is safe from me at the moment. As soon as I see things that I can embellish with the materials I have to have them. Sometimes I feel like as if my brain is a walking Design Space library. So many ideas in it.

What are must-have items in your Cricut toolbox?
Cricut Maker, weeding tool, EasyPress, Scoring Wheel and Knife Blade

Liz Tu

Liz Tu

Melbourne, Australia
Occupation: Calligrapher / Crafter (and mum)

Why do you create? What inspires you?
I love making life that extra bit more beautiful. I create for myself, my home, and my family and friends. I also love creating for others so that they can spread their love and make others’ lives more beautiful. I am inspired by all the wonderful creations that other crafters share, and I love giving back to that community by sharing my work to inspire others. I love seeing something, try to recreate it and make it my own way.

How does making and being creative empower you?
There’s something really special about being able to formulate a concept, needing to think outside of the square and then bringing it to life. There is no limit to crafting, and being able to create something unique is truly empowering. I love teaching workshops to empower others to create.  Seeing others create makes me happy.

Is there a particular woman in your life that has made an impact on your life?
My mum is by far my greatest inspiration. Growing up, we did not have much, but we had enough. Seeing her make something amazing out of absolutely nothing is an incredible thing to witness. She can develop an idea, and then using whatever she could get her hands on, she would create it for us.

What are your favorite things to make with Cricut?
It’s such an honour helping others celebrate life’s milestones, so personalising items for engagements, weddings, pregnancies, births and anniversaries are one of my favourite things to do. I also LOVE creating with my kids; helping them give their school projects some extra love and designing fun costumes are amongst our favourite things to do.

What are must-have items in your Cricut toolbox?
Obviously, the fine point blade and the weeding tool are must-haves – but I also love my scoring wheel and engraving tip. The EasyPress Mini is very much loved as it gets into all the difficult corners.

Why do you create? What inspires you? I love to create personal gifts, it is my passion to light up someone’s day, and make them smile. Could be personal like a memory pillow for my son or a fingerprint engraved for a old friend that lost her mom…  I also love to inspire others to create or help them to learn more about Cricut and make their own projects in design space.

Is there a particular womxn in your life that has made an impact on your life? My Mother! She always inspired me to be creative, she was the one that introduced me to crafting when I was a kid… I will always be grateful for that… its my passion, my therapy and my joy ❤️

What are your favorite things to make with Cricut? I love using Infusible Ink… and especially with my youngest son. I love to use his hand-drawn creations to create gifts for the grandparents. And I love to make cards during the pandemic to make others smile.

Lisa Johns

Lisa Johns with her #cricutmade unicorn cushion

Cornwall, UK
Occupation: Hotel Reception Manager

Why do you create? What inspires you?
I first heard about Cricut when I was in my first national lockdown and I was pregnant with our first baby. I had been baking for such a long time and wanted something new to get stuck into so started searching for hobbies to do at home and discovered the amazing world of Cricut.

How does making and being creative empower you?
I started my Cricut journey as I needed something positive to focus on while Lainey (my daughter) was sleeping. She loves her sleep so I found myself getting anxious and down whilst awaiting the results of some medical tests…

I started having severe migraines when I was 5 months pregnant, which the doctors put down to my high hormone levels at the time. Around 6 weeks, after Lainey was born, I would wake up at 5am each day with severe migraines. At one point, I couldn’t see out of my left eye, then a few hours later, I couldn’t see out of my right eye. The doctors referred me for an MRI which highlighted a small growth in my brain. After a 6 weeks, we finally had the news that it was non-cancerous but is growing on the pituitary gland. This gland controls all other glands in the body so hormone production can be affected. We are now awaiting results to find out which of my hormones are affected and whether treatment or medication is required depending on these results.

Crafting allowed me to escape the negative thinking and keeping my mind and hands busy during the dark days is what got me through.

Is there a particular womxn in your life that has made an impact on your life?
The biggest inspiration in my life is my mum. She raised 5 children, worked so hard to provide for us along with my dad, showed us how to face the hard things in life, and enjoy the happy times. My father passed away from lung cancer in November 2016. 3 months later, my mum was diagnosed with lung cancer, on top of her existing lung condition which already made everyday life an extreme struggle for her.

She fought so hard through chemotherapy as they couldn’t offer surgery due to her existing condition. I watched her struggling to breath, no hair, and facing the daunting news that they could not operate and she never once moaned, or gave up. She got up every day and started the fight again. Her cancer is still there but it is under control and she is as strong today as she was back then despite her illness. My mum is my hero and she has made me the strong and independent person I am today.

What are your favorite things to make with Cricut?
My favourite things to make are home organisation labels, 3D flowers in a box frame, and cushion covers.

What are must-have items in your Cricut toolbox?
My must have tools are the weeding tool and Infusible Ink! I was always so afraid of using the Infusible Ink as I was terrified it would be too complicated but oh my gosh, I am addicted! So simple to use and you can create the most beautiful crafts with it! My favourite make is a unicorn image that says ‘Born to be a unicorn’ inside of a unicorn head shape (from Design Space), using the rainbow Infusible Ink. It turned out so well!

Sommer Louie

Sommer Louie - Cricut Corporate Counsel

Houston, TX
Occupation: Attorney, Senior Corporate Counsel

Why do you create? What inspires you?
I think “creating” is in my DNA! I create to relieve stress and increase joy. I have a demanding job, so spending quality alone time making something beautiful, useful, and/or unique is how I recharge my batteries. Plus, I appreciate the focus-shift: when I create, I can ignore everything except the creative task at hand, which is extremely helpful in times of uncertainty. Many things inspire me, especially nature, but most recently I’ve been inspired by the larger maker community and the overwhelming talent and creativity they display daily.

How does making and being creative empower you?
I’ve struggled with confidence and an imposter syndrome particularly in adulthood. When I’m making garments (my current focus), I’m tailoring to my body and I’ve never felt more attractive and capable than when I’m wearing something made entirely by my hands. And when I share my makes, the validation and encouragement that I receive from others builds my confidence even more.

Is there a particular womxn in your life that has made an impact on your life?
My mother is my rock. She doesn’t have a creative bone in her body, but she taught me hard work, focus, and attention to details and quality. She’s also been one of my biggest fans, always encouraging me to challenge myself and explore my creative side.

What are your favorite things to make with Cricut?
I started using my Cricut Maker (and Cuddlebug) specifically for papercrafts and greeting cards, but most recently I’ve really gotten into making custom shirts with Infusible Ink. It’s so much fun and the results are so satisfying! Infusible Ink makes have become some of my favorite gifts to give. I made as (this below shirt) a gift for my champagne loving friend.

Shireen Selfelt

Stockholm, Sweden
Occupation: Cricut Sales and Marketing Executive

Why do you create? What inspires you?
I bake because, with baking, I get to gather people in the same room – let them enjoy something sweet and allow some time together. To see other people enjoying something I have created – it’s pure happiness and a real energy kick.

How does making and being creative empower you?
Baking allows me to shut down the “real” world for a moment and just let me play with my ingredients and take my baking to a higher level.

Shireen Selfelt

Is there a particular womxn in your life that has made an impact on your life?
My mother. She’s always so loving, caring and wants all the best for everyone. I grew up by seeing her always inviting people to our house, made plenty of food and just enjoyed the time together.

What are your favorite things to make with Cricut?
Cake toppers for all my cakes (now I can create them myself instead of buying them). In addition, I love to create personalized shirts for friends and family. It makes them so happy = me happy.

What are must-have items in your Cricut toolbox?
Cricut Joy (cutest little machine ever), vinyl and iron-on

Huda Roslan

Huda Roslan

Johor Bahru, Malaysia
Occupation: HR Manager

Why do you create? What inspires you?
I create because I feel so relieved when I created something. This is one of the way I express my feelings other than singing in the car or during shower. With my Cricut Maker, I can create and design any design I desire, and put it into “REAL”.

Surrounding, observation and experience inspires me to create. Sometimes, it gave myself – self motivation when I create.

Is there a particular women in your life that has made an impact on your life?
I met this one person. She was born disabled. She loved to paint. And her works were amazing that you can’t imagine how a disabled person’s ability can do an awesome works. Whenever she felt down, she will paint more and more…and that’s how she expresses her impression on anything. She made money selling her painting works to a disabled center – to help them. Her life motto is, if you think you are facing a test with difficulties, there’s a lot out there who don’t have food to eat or a place to stay…and now, she’s gone…

What are your favorite things to make with Cricut?
I love making labels. I can create and do on my own by using lots of awesome variable materials from Cricut.

What are must-have items in your Cricut toolbox?
Cricut Maker, EasyPress 2

Lam Pham

Lam Pham

Sandy, UT
Occupation: Electrical Engineer

Why do you create? What inspires you?
Creating helps me release stress that comes from work and daily life. I need time to focus on myself and the time I spend to make a custom cup or a T-shirt makes me relax because in my opinion, you should be satisfied with yourself rather than waiting someone to judge your job. What keeps me continuing to do artwork is the positive energy after I finish a piece of art which could be a free hand drawing, painting and even redesigning my bedroom.

Is there a particular womxn in your life that has made an impact on your life?
My mom taught me sewing, embroidering, crocheting when I was a kid. And then I continued to learn drawing, painting for 10 years after deciding to become an engineer. She taught me how to be patient with my work. I used to spend 1 month to crochet my first scarf when I was 10, if I gave up, I couldn’t see how beautiful the scarf was. So, I don’t mind taking more time and effort to my work even though failures still keep coming because I want to see the result.

What are your favorite things to make with Cricut?

I like iron-on projects.

What are must-have items in your Cricut toolbox?
Cricut Maker, EasyPress 2, and EasyPress Mini

Why do you create? What inspires you?
Creating helps me to connect with my friends and family – I love partying, organizing occasions such as dinners, parties, birthdays and celebrate – it makes me happy to share.

I really enjoy setting up beautiful tables, and share nice dinners – thanks to Cricut Joy I can add a little sparkle to my dinners – and impress my guests!
In France, we give a high importance to food and especially to sharing this moment with our loved ones, to me the beauty of a table is as important as what we eat!!! Cricut makes your tables look pretty and write menus, I love it!

How does making and being creative empower you?
I grew up in a family of 5 kids. I am the second oldest so I had to affirm my position between my sister and brothers. It has always been important for me to express my own personality and singularity. Creating helps me be myself without being influenced by anyone, it makes me feel alive.

Is there a particular womxn in your life that has made an impact on your life?
Michelle Obama, despite the barriers that she had encountered because of her skin color. She never stopped believing in herself. She is a model woman.

My parents immigrated to France in the early 70’s, from Morocco (North Africa). I was born in France and I have a double culture, so very early, I understood that I was different and I believe this is a strength. I love using my Cricut Joy, it is easy and fast and the results always impress.
