With such great weather and so many things to do outside, you and your family are sure to experience some wonderful summer fun! Remember to take your trusty camera along and capture a few choice photos for your scrapbooks. Naturally, vacations are a traditional part of summer. Name:
Kathy Orta
About:
Mom of a 15 year son and married to my Cricut for over 2 years and I must say we are happy together! I love papercrafting. I think that is an unerstatement. This is the only hobby that continues to peek my interest. My Cricut, however, is the power behind my creativity.

Kathy's Project: Super Chic Purse
Picture:

Cartridges Used:

Tags, Bags, Boxes, and More
Instructions:
This super chic purse was made with Tags, Bags, Boxes, and More and DesignStudio. I cut the fringe by hand and alternated the colors for added interest. I used a houndstooth pattern paper as I think it just perfect for this look. Added some embellishments for hardward on handles and closure. I used the hot glue gun to assemble this purse. I find that it gives more stability to the structure. This bag is 7"x6"x2", you can fit a super special gift in here!

CARTRIDGE EXPLORATION - Lyrical Letters

It seems that lately Utah has had a ton of rain, which is unusual for the month of June. So, you could basically say that I have had no chance to mow the lawn or pull weeds. I think I have weeds three feet high! At least I can say that I don't have an excuse not to craft or play with my Cricut, because with all this rain I have been house bound with nothing but time on my hands to explore the Cricut cartridges that are new in my library. Over the last few weeks I have been exploring the cartridge Lyrical Letters and discovering all the fun the different fonts and images are on this cartridge. The artist Cecelia Harris really knew what she was designing when she put this cartridge together. The creative features that are on this cartridge are: Capital, Connected, Loop Dee Loo, Jack Splat, Jumbo, and Italic Monoline. To see a full list of all the fun buttons that come under each creative feature, check the back of the handbook between pages 78 through 83. I have covered quite a few fonts over the last few explorations in today's article I will cover the creative features Capital, and Jack Splat.

The Jack Splat font is a fun spunky font; it has straight thin lines (See example). Don't forget you get a full upper and lowercase alphabet and a full set of numbers plus some symbols too. The shape that comes with this font is a diamond, sold and outlined. The outline button with this feature comes with a solid pear and flower in the outline box. The phrases that come with this font are: "Happy Halloween" with a dropping spider, "Many thanks" with a pear, "Birthday Blessings" with a present, "Celebrate Love" with a border row of hearts, "Winter" with a penguin, "My thoughts are with you" with a leaf border, "Just Saying Hi" with a bunny head, and "God be with you" with a flower. This font is great for the father's day cards, boyish looking scrapbook pages, or even a poster or school project.

The Capital feature has more curves and character to each of the letters. Remember you get a full set of upper and lowercase alphabet and numbers. There are some symbols included and the shape button that comes with this feature is Oval--you get both horizontal and a vertical oval outline. The images that come in the square outline boxes are a tall leaf, and a flower. The phrases and images that come with this feature are: "Hooray for You Dad" with a argyle border, "How Kind" with tall flowers, "Hooray" with fireworks designs, "Birthday Wishes" with a matchbook solid template, "Sweetheart" with a single heart, "Autumn" with two small birds, "You're on My Mind" with three little hearts, "Just a Note" with a music note, and "Get Well" with a long leaf. This font would be great for the female touch to cards, scrapbook pages or anything that you want a little bit more feminine looking. This font is one of my favorite designs and I have plans to cut a saying out of vinyl and put it above my kitchen arch. I think this design will work perfect with my kitchen decor. If you haven't heard that this cartridge is on DesignStudio, well, then here is some big news. You can now download the update from the website and start welding your own words with the DesignStudio. This makes creating titles for your scrapbook pages so easy and the software is simple to use if you haven't tried it yet. I love mine.

Check back next week as I wrap up this cartridge, and I wanted to wish all you fathers and soon to be fathers a wonderful Father's Day. I hope it was everything that you wanted the day to be. Happy crafting!

TECH SUPPORT NOOK - Q. My machine does not make accurate cuts. The cuts don't line up or there are etching lines cutting between full cuts.

A. 1 - Make sure there is no jiggle or movement to the cutting carriage itself. It should be secure to the inside track with no movement other than the normal left/right flow. If this is the case, service is needed.

2 - Does it looks like the blade housing bottom is is too low? It should be at least 1/8" above the mat when the machine is powered on. If not, service is needed.

3 - Make sure the blade housing and black arm that holds it have a "bounce" to them. It you feel any resistance, rubbing, or sticking when you move it up and down gently, service is needed.

4 - Make sure that the mat has free clearance behind and in front of the machine and that it's not coming in contact with anything, as such might knock it off track.

If service is needed, contact Cricut Customer Service: 1-877-727-4288 or support@cricut.com.
