UPDATE: the vet called around 6 to tell me JJ's heart gave out and he died peacefully. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

Here's how he looked yesterday before I took him to the animal hospital. JJ is my 3.2 lb Yorkie we adopted from an elderly couple 3 years ago. I Spoke with vet this morning and he advised that JJ is in kidney failure; his pancreas enzymes are off the scale, and he has slightly increased white blood cells (could be caused spontaneously, eating something difficult to digest or possibly cancer of the pancreas - which he cannot test for at his facility). He is giving JJ medicine for his kidneys and although he hasn't improved, he hasn't worsened either. His kidneys are not extracting the toxins, but he is urinating. He doesn't believe he is in pain and will keep him another night to see if the kidney med helps him improve, if not we will have to make a painful decision (vet believes in quality of life, not quantity - which is my believe as well). Please say a prayer for my little doggie...he's only 6 years old.

Thanks Colleen. It's truly hard. We have a Silky Terrier, Bebe, at home and she's upset he's not there...she didn't eat at all last night. Just breaks my heart, especially that sad little face.

Robin...sorry you are going through this difficult time. My guy is 13 and a half, a diabetic and has little fatty deposits on his body, but still acts like a puppy. When that stops I know we will be in the same shoes you are. (HUGS)

So very sorry Robin!!!! At least he wasn't suffering.

I know you all will miss him especially Bebe.
My SIL had two dogs and when one passed away, the other was really heartbroken. Sounds like yours.

She felt so bad after a week, that she went and adopted another pup. Another one certainly doesn't lessen the loss but it helped both her and her other dog.

This is so very sad! Sad I feel so bad that you have lost your adorable little furbaby, JJ. I had a Pomeranian who I had to put to sleep about 4 1/2 years ago. Same thing, kidney failure, but she was 13 years old. I made the decision to put her down because I didn't want her to endure anymore pain and the vet told me it was the most unselfish thing I could have done. It was one of the most toughest decisions I've ever had to make. He put her to sleep in my arms. Crying So, I think you did the right thing. My daughters couldn't stand to see me so sad, so they took it upon themselves to find me another dog right away. Now I have a Yorkie named Molly. I'll never forget Foxy, but Molly sure helped the days go by faster and made me a little bit happier. I'll be thinking about you and praying that you get through this sad time in your life. Smile

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and prayers. I went to see him this morning at the vet's office, said my goodbyes and took a lock of his hair (for his scrapbook). He will always hold a special place in my heart.

The vet is allowing us to take him home to bury him.

I'm glad I have all you ladies to help me through this time. Bebe is still not eating, but hopefully she too will get past this. I think she realizes he's not there, but you never know with animals.

robin she knows that he is not there. when we had to have the older of our two put to sleep i know it took the little one a while to get past it and then when she became sick it was terrible. I have both of them buried in my back yard.. I know some people think that is weird but I know they are taken care of..
