I just got my Cricut and I'm so excited about using Craft Room. I plugged my Cricut in last night ready to craft and was told I needed to update my firmware. I went through all the steps but at the end, it failed. Any tips on how to make it work? I know I can call customer service but I work during their hours making it kinda tricky...

Help please!!

I'm having the same problem with my mac. I've been on hold with CS for about 30 mins and still no answer, so don't try it from work.

Me too! Cricut failed to informed everyone that the Craftroom will not work with Mac 0SX-10.9

I called CS helpline and they told me it will not work with the new Mac update. Please let me know if you find a solution.

I have windows loaded on my mac with boot camp...so I just rebooted into windows and installed cricut craft room. It works so I will just use windows until they solve the problem for mac

What a disappointment...

This is terrible! Especially since the ads on the Cricut website for the Craft Room have a Mac computer in the photos. What were they thinking???? So many of us use Macs now. They even used Macs on their website!!!!

Fix this Cricut.....
soon....

The Mac users will not tolerate this neglect.

Agreed! when I asked CS when there might be a fix to the mac issue, her answer was basically to use a PC if I have one available. That is what I have done.

Unfortunately, my expression ended up with a memory error that they now tell me is unfixable - my machine is only 2 years old!!! Tried to use my mom's cricut create and guess what?? Told to update firmware and Ruined it too - argh!!!! Ready to switch to another type of machine but have so much invested in these blankity blank cartridges! Very frustrated with this product. May have to look into selling all my cartridges and move on over. Have been a cricut customer since 2006 and I think I am done!!

Wow there are a lot of problems with Macs here. My wife experienced the same problem with Craft Room and updating firmware on her Mac. I couldn't get the Mac version to work either, but there is an easy workaround.

Crossover software allows you to run the PC version of the software on your mac. Crossover Link is the link, and they have a downloadable free trial. Using the PC software from my Mac (which Crossover enables you to do), I was able to quickly update the Expression firmware after hours of trying to get the Mac version of the software working.

Long term, you might want to even buy this software. The Cricut programmers seem to be a lot better with the PC versions of their products - too bad.

Unacceptable Cursing . So after I've spent hundreds of dollars on a machine and cartridges that just because I've updated my mac to Mavericks I will no longer be able to use the Craft Room? Isn't the Craft Room the only way to move and arrange images anywhere on the virtual mat? I've tried to move images around on my expression 2 and all I can do is add or remove them. This sincerely upsets me and frustrates me to no end. I truly hope Cricut is working on an update for those of us who have updated!

What sucks for me is 1. I have a mac and three Cricuts and cannot use any of them with it. 2. My gypsy is broken and cannot afford to send it in to get fixed right now. I am beyond pissed because I was going to work on my halloween costume this weekend and couldn't because I didn't have a workable device. PC FIX THIS ISSUE NOW!!!!!!!!!!

I find this really irritating that they didn't warn users ahead of time not to make the update. Now here I am with a large project that needs to be cut ASAP and it won't work! I think I'm done with Cricut after this - makes a good excuse to switch to the Silhouette.

I am also a MAC user who updated to Mavericks unaware that I would no longer be able to use my cricut. I also sent the company an email asking whether it was due to the software update and they sent me a generic, thoughtless email reply... 5 DAYS LATER stating that I would have to call the "customer service" number. After being on hold for a few minutes I thought I would google the problem and found all these posts. Going on 20 minutes on hold and still waiting...

I'm having a very similar problem. I have Mavericks downloaded on my mac laptop. When I tried to used my cricut expression it prompted me to update the firmware. Which I tried to do several times each time it told me it failed at the end. However when I turn on my cricut it tells me it's version 2.43.

I've installed cricut craft room on my roommate's mac lap top that is not running the mavericks update and the craft room runs just fine .I can cut and link cartridges without a problem. So I'm guessing this is an issue with Mavericks……. anyone have any idea around this ? Looking really doubtful, looks like we might have to wait for an update from CCR to fix the compatibility issue .

You are correct. Craft Room does NOT work with Mavericks. I spoke to CS and there is no timeline for the update as far as I can tell. I was told they are "working on it". The first report of this issue was 21 days ago. I hope there is a fix soon!

I have called the customer service line twice. The 2nd time I was told that they were having issues with the updates with MAC OS updates. I asked what solution they had. I was told to use a different computer if I had one. Fortunately, I do. When I told her that I had a PC laptop I can use she stated that it can't be running Windows 8.1, I will have the same problem.

This is SO frustrating!! Cricut time and time ago shows just how unfriendly they are with other applications! When I asked for a time frame for the repair, it was suggested I look online at blogs and posts to see if a user had found a solution. I sincerely hope that they are not waiting for their users to find a solution for them! But since this has been going on for over a month, it seems like maybe they are.

Their lack of solution also show just how little the care about their consumer! They know we have $$$ invested in our systems and the chances of us going somewhere else is slim. This could be a marketers dream for Silhoutte or Pazzles, they should offer a rebate or trade in our Cricut machines. How many would trade? A plus would be you also get to use Make the Cut and other 3rd party die cut software.

Hoping Cricut shows some good faith and gets this correctly quickly!

I seriously doubt if this problem is a Maverick only. I have been unable to successfully use my MacBook with OS 10.8 since last year. I have updated, reloaded, reinstalled, etc so many times my head spins. This is shoddy software and I am beyond disappointed. In nearly a year have had absolutely no success is creating a project.

Just to let you all know, I was waiting and waiting for Cricut to make CCR work with Mac 4months ago. I was coming up on my 30 days to return the machine, and decided to return it and ALL the carts I bought (the ones I could return, anyway), and bought the Cameo Silhouette. OMG, what a difference MAC users. You don't have to buy silly carts that cost a fortune. I did my daughter's whole birthday party (candy table labels, goodie bags, centerpieces, invitations, etc...) all for the price of the paper I used. I was able to find the image online and print and cut! Now to hear that CCR is having problems again because of Apple's Mavericks update is absolutely ridiculous. I feel for you all. I spent many hours on the phone with Customer Service. Although they were super friendly, they had no answers. Just "use another computer if you have one". No timeline for a fix. Seems to be an ongoing problem. It bothers me because it costs so much to invest in this hobby and they really could care less if people can't use the product; at least that's the statement they make by not prioritizing a fix. Anyway, just thought I'd give my 2 cents and toot Silhouette Cameo's horn. Good luck to you all!

I have been using Craft Room on my Mac Laptop with Mountain Lion operating system. Last used it two weeks ago with no problem. Yesterday all it would do for me was to tell me to update the firmware. I have been using the latest firmware. Nothing would make it work. Called and after several attempts I was told that my machine must be too old and needs to be replaced. (It cuts as long as it is not connect to the internet.)

Was then advised to reinstall software on MacBook. Did not solve problem. Then was advised to install on another computer and call back and advise if it worked. Nope didn't work but got different error message.

Called Cricut again. This time I was informed software would not work on Windows 8 and Apple Maverick. Okay, but I have Mountain Lion. I'm not a happy camper. I've synced all my cartridges on the software that doesn't work on either computer. Now the cartridges are worthless to me and anyone that I might sell them to. Okay a fix would be to cut things I want, scan, drop the scan into Silhouette Studio and cut. Very time consuming, but it can be done.

Come on Cricut please keep up with the times for your customers.

Angry I have a Cricut imagine. It cuts sometimes under Mavericks but not always. After lots of turning on, turning off, restarting Cricut Craft Room I finally figured out that if I tell it to "print and cut" even though I am just cutting (through Cricut Craft Room) then it cuts. Anybody else notice that?

Solutions are
1.) install Bootcamp and Windows,
2.) Install Mac OSX 10.8 or lower on an external Harddrive and boot in to Mac OSX 10.8 or Lower
3.) Use software line VMware Fusion/ VirtualBox or other virtual Operating system software this would give you the best of both worlds to use your cricut in.

After wading through all comments on the Cricut/Mavericks (Mac) problem here is the link leading to the CCR version that fixed my problem:

http://www.cricut.com/home/usemini

There are 2 versions, one for Windows and one for Mac.
