Since Cricut was greedy enough to put an end to all the software companies that allowed us to cut SVG files on our cricuts when are they going to update the Craft room so we can use all the files we have purchased. I do not get to use my machine often and did not know anything about the lawsuits until AFTER I updated and purchased the expression 2. Now of course the software I have does not work. Really I have 2 machines and over 80 cartridges is it really necessary for you to monopolize the market place so no one else can do anything. Rest assured I will buy NO OTHER cricut cartridges or machines and when this one dies that is it I will move on to another company that isn't afraid of a little competition

So incredibly frustrated and angry at Provo craft.....................ThumbDown

I'll be the first to say this before the moderators, "Cricut is a cartridge based cutter". Now that that's out of the way, YES I AGREE WITH YOUR POST 100%. What a cutter the Cricut would be if only we could cut our own images. I'm working with Adobe Illustrator and can make such nice things that would look great on a bumper sticker, window decals and t-shirts but can't cut them as I had expected to with the purchase of my E2. I'm with you on the longevity on the Cricut, when it dies I'm selling off the 20 plus carts I have and buying the competition. With what I have invested in the carts I could possibly buy two of the competitors cutters.

I could be wrong but I thought that provo craft had a patent on the cutting machine, If I had a patent on any thing and others were moving in I would also put a stop to it. Businesses are in business to make money, I do not blame them for any thing they did, I was happy they lowered the MSR price of cartridges, they did not have too. They will make more money by selling carts, not letting you use other software. I don't see this changing.

These companies are not infringing on the patented cartridge system for the cricut. They are making digital files that can be cut with software on the cricut. The Cricut machine is the delivery system if you will. How is it any different than using your cuttlebug with a Tim Holtz embossing folder or using a Sizzix die on a Tim Holtz vagabond system. There is no difference. I am all for protecting an individual patent or design but this isn't doing that. It is creating a monopoly.... That is not free enterprise or the American Way. Should we be able to cut out a design on our Cricut that we purchased if we make the design..... Same theory. If you have Sizzix embossing folders and Tim Holtz embossing folders should you have to buy both of there machines. I don't think people have the money or the space for it

The cutting machine itself is not obviously the problem or there won't be other options on the market.

I'm not sure if Provocraft is greedy are has no business sense. The way I see it, if Provocraft had allowed SCAL to be used with their machines they would still sell machines. Cricut users are still going to buy cartridges, I have about 150 cartridges. I have purchased cartridges for one or two images, not any more. I will not purchased another cartridge or machine until they fix CCR. I love my cricuts I have purchased a total of 5 and like everyone else I have invested a lot of money in this company and would love to see all tools working. I think the most frustrating thing is for them to do an update mess up one thing and not fix what it was suppose to fix. Call me impatient, I think after almost a year CCR should be working with all bugs gone. What is so hard about removing a border from around an image so you can use the image once it's cut without having to pull out the scissors, that's just one issue. When I invested in the Cricut I was aware it was a cartridge base cutter. Yes, I used SCAL mainly for the fonts and I do have one cricut I did not update so I could use SCAL if needed. I purchased the Silhouette SD before Provocraft came out with the Imagine because of the print and cut feature. I think 2 or 3 months later Provocraft announced the Imagine. Because they can't seem to get CCR working I just purchasd the Silhouette Cameo and I love it. If CCR was working with my Imagine I never would have purchased the Silhouette. I would think Provocraft would ask the question why is the software from the other companys working and CCR is not. SCAL, MTC,and Silhouette Studio and a few others are dealing the the same Operating Systems and Anti-Virus software and the programs are working. It was provocraft that boast about how much more we would be able to do on the imagine using CCR. I called customer support regarding my imagine not printing, I was told CCR was not met for the Imagine, I ask to speak to someone else.

Something to consider, the Library of Congress (operates the Copyright Office) has decided that jailbreaking is a fair use of the Apple IPhone.

It will be interesting to see if this has any impact on the new lawsuite.

Interesting question, and yes if you google either unlock or jailbreak your Iphone, you'll find products that can be purchased to jailbreak your IPhone, along with some free instructions on how to do it.

This will explain why every charity shop I have been in lately has a cricut for about $20 for sale. Everyone is dumping their cricuts and buying something that they can actually use to cut things with. Come on provo craft, if I buy a printer, I expect to be able to print any image I want, (not just the ones that epson/hp say I can) - how is this any different? It is a blatant attempt at profiteering - nasty and ultimately stupid. Good luck PC, and farewell.

Two years later and people are still mad about the lawsuits? I think it's time to get over it. If you don't want a cart based cutter, many of us still do, you don't have to buy one or use the one you may already have.

If you bought a car and later decided you needed/wanted a minivan, you wouldn't expect the car manufacturer to change your car into a minivan, would you? Nope, you'd trade or sell your car and buy a minivan.

Well, you can do 1 of 2 things. Buy a machine that cuts SVGs and keep your Cricut E2, or buy an Expression and continue to use your third party software. I still do. They can't take away what you already have. Mine still works like a dream even after the updates to my E, and I will always keep my Expression just for that software. I love it. I also still use carts. But I only have the one machine because I just don't want more than one. If I ever lose the ability to use that software, I will have to buy a machine that cuts SVGs because I am now spoiled with cutting my own designs.

I agree with everyone else here. There will still be those who purchase carts dispite MTC or other companies or even if PC will allow importing our SVG's into CCR. I don't think it would hurt PC's business by allowing importing of SVG files. Infact, if any PC people read this, I think it would help. Everyone won't be in such a hurry to dump their Cricuts for another company's machine.

With that said... I have owned only 2 machines... I started with the Personal cutter and soon got the Expression because I wanted the 12 x 12 cutting. I have Sure-Cuts-Alot and MTC. I bought both and ended up sticking with MTC. Anyhow, I saved the plug-in for the cricut machine and copied it to my MTC 4.0 plugin directory. It works great. Be warned though.. if you do this, the brand new update for MTC does not support the old Cricut plugin. So, if you want to continue to use MTC with your Cricut E, do not download the new update. I almost did and then read a post about it.
